General Information About the Program:
Sterilization and Disinfection processes are vital and indispensable processes in the health sector. Hospital infections carry a great burden not only for patients but also for staff. With effective sterilization and disinfection, both the incidence of hospital infections will be reduced and the spread of resistant microorganisms will be prevented. For this purpose, the personnel working in the Central Sterilization Units, which serve twenty-four hours in hospitals, are given great duties and responsibilities. With the Disinfection, Sterilization and Antisepsis Program, it is aimed to train students who have theoretical and technical education in basic and application areas, and to ensure that students have knowledge about research and development and applications, as well as reaching the level of basic knowledge. Thus, it was thought that the shortage of personnel needed in this area would be eliminated. The purpose of the Disinfection, Sterilization and Antisepsis program is to train students who have sufficient theoretical knowledge in their fields, who have gained experience with their internships and who have work discipline.
Students who complete the program are given an associate degree diploma and the title of Disinfection, Sterilization and Antisepsis Health Technician. Graduates of this department do not have the opportunity to work individually and can work in the sterilization units of private and public hospitals.

Earned Degree Requirements and Rules:
In order to graduate, students must successfully complete 120 ECTS credits in four semesters. In this program, they have to successfully complete all the courses required for 60 ECTS credits in the first two semesters and their internships in the remaining two semesters. Those who complete the program are given an associate degree diploma and the title of Disinfection, Sterilization and Antisepsis Technician. Recognition of Prior Learning:
Students who are entitled to enroll in the Disinfection, Sterilization and Antisepsis Program are students who have completed their secondary education or received an equivalent education abroad and have obtained the required score for this program in the national university exam, or students who have transferred from another higher education institution. Purpose of the Program:
The purpose of the Disinfection, Sterilization and Antisepsis Technician Program is to have sufficient knowledge and experience in sterilization and disinfection, familiar with medical materials, pre-cleaning, decontamination, counting, maintenance, control, packaging, sterilization and storage of all kinds of materials used for medical purposes under appropriate conditions. Having knowledge and experience in the proper storage, recording and delivery of sterilized materials, being sensitive to people, society and ethical principles, aiming to continuously improve their profession; adopting a scientific way of thinking; To train Disinfection, Sterilization and Antisepsis technicians who are open to different ideas and cultures, qualified, equipped with professional knowledge and skills.

Program qualifications:
  • Has basic institutional and applied knowledge and skills about disinfection, sterilization and antisepsis methods, accessing, evaluating and applying basic information.
  • Informs the relevant persons and institutions by using the basic knowledge and skills on disinfection, sterilization and antisepsis, and conveys his thoughts and solutions to the problems verbally and in writing.
  • It acts in accordance with the laws, regulations, legislation, professional ethical principles, democracy and human rights regarding its duties, rights and responsibilities in disinfection, sterilization and antisepsis, and develops solution proposals by considering professional and ethical values.
  • Interprets and evaluates the data by using the basic knowledge and skills acquired in disinfection, sterilization and antisepsis, carries out the given task independently, defines and analyzes the problems and takes responsibility in the studies planned for the solution, and shares the solution suggestions for the problems with experts and non-experts.
  • It uses information and communication technologies along with basic computer software related to disinfection, sterilization and antisepsis.
  • He critically evaluates the basic knowledge and skills he has acquired on disinfection, sterilization and antisepsis, and manages activities for the development of employees under his responsibility within the framework of a project.
  • 7- He is an example to the society with his appearance, attitude, attitudes and behaviors and has the experience of working with other health disciplines.

8-identifies learning needs and directs learning. Has a lifelong learning awareness. For this purpose, he knows at least one foreign language and follows up-to-date information about his profession and communicates with his colleagues.

10- Acts in accordance with social, scientific, cultural and ethical values in the stages of collecting, interpreting, applying and announcing the results related to disinfection, sterilization and antisepsis.

11- Acts in accordance with quality management and processes, participates in these processes, has sufficient awareness of individual and public health, environmental protection and occupational safety.

Occupational Profile of Graduates:
Disinfection, Sterilization and Antisepsis Technicians are health technicians who theoretically know all the steps that need to be prepared for reuse of medical instruments to be used in the health sector and have the ability to do them practically.

Structure of the Curriculum:
The Disinfection, Sterilization and Antisepsis Program consists of a total of 4 semesters and 120 ECTS. students can complete a total of 30 ECTS credits in compulsory, elective courses and internships each semester, and can complete a total of 120 ECTS credits in order to graduate. ECTS (75%) of the courses are compulsory and ECTS (25%) are elective courses. Elective courses can be taken from other programs of the vocational school and/or from other faculties.

Exams, Evaluation and Grading:
The measurement and evaluation methods applied in the lessons are defined in the 'Course Teaching Plan' in the information package. Regarding the exams and success grades, H.ü. Graduation Requirements:
In order for students to graduate, they must have successfully completed a total of 120 ECTS credits in four semesters and achieved a general academic average of at least 2.00 according to the 4-point system.
